Brooke M Davis, IDSA- Sofa Design Project

Davis was excited to “geek out on process” to fellow designers as she took them through her 4 year journey to create the perfect sofa! Her process illustrated how she goes from hand cut blue foam models to finessing the final design through multiple iterations. She acknowledge that twice during this design the did not know how to create certain parts and thusly took classes to build her skillsets for complex surface modeling in polysurfaces and Sub D modeling in rhino. She then CNC machined every piece in MDF before she committed to cutting the final components in Solid Walnut. This attention to detail is carried through to the painstaking task of removing all of the tool marks by hand sanding them away. She hopes to be finished with the sanding soon!
