Coffee Table- Blue Mahoe 2012

Side Table- White Corian and Maple 2010
W 21 D 14 H 22
Inspired by nature and form, Tabelscape No.1 combines art and function to crate this magnificent dining experience. Originally I was trying to create a surface that mimicked fabric being pulled down into a crevices, but as the design emerge the surface began to take on landscape of its own. There is also influence of car styling where the surfaces transform from hard edge definitions into softly rolling transitions of form.
As with each piece I do, I am constantly trying to develop my modeling techniques in the computer and later bring them to life by using the cnc machine to carve them as an extension of the hand. Once carved the pieces are painstakingly hand sanded to remove all tool marks and finished to reveal the true beauty of the work: an tactile exploration that is meant to be felt, a feast for the senses.
The table was shown at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in the 2018 show Craft Texas where it won the Award of Merit from Juror Jennifer Scallan - Curator for the Oklahoma Museum of Contemporary Craft and most recently at The Texas Furniture Makers Show 2019
The table first debuted at ICFF in 2012 where it was received and publicized internationally.

The intertwined series is a venture into the complex relationship of one's journey to life. The rhythm of life distilled down to a gesture, a simple flowing form that when followed seemingly crests and ends abruptly; however it is here that a second rhythm comes to the forefront to carry into the next crest. This is life's rhythms. The center of the form is an expression of the intertwined complexity of the self that connects to these larger life rhythms. The piece is painstakingly hand sanded for weeks to ensure the softest touch and completed with a hand rubbed finish.
This series was an exploration into size scale and form. It’s an evolution from the allura table in that I began to explore controlling free form organic structures. They juxtaposed the more formal elements that contained them. Some of the form is inspired by car design and how the surfaces transition from soft rolling forms to hard edge breaks. I was also curious with some much time invested in the design, what other iterations could come from playing with scale.
The surfacescape was shortened and given an animalistic base that has two keystones that lock in the frame. The 16 x16 was literally as if someone punched a square out of the middle of the form and enlarged it- there are 8 of these in private collections. Next I tried warping the 16 x 16 over a bowl form and then played with thermoforming plastics to create the unique design. In the last iteration, I scaled the piece down to see if it would work as a necklace pendant. Unfortunately at this scale the middle of the design becomes very thin and brittle.

Queen-size Head board with removable walnut frame.
Size can be customized and designers can add frame of their choice.
The challenge became the elegance of this piece. I had many request to make a head board after the Pilo Side Tables, but I wanted to try out new methods and so for this project the challenge became how to use individual pieces of wood to create this seamless patchwork pattern. I am pleased with the results!
